Veteran drama group stages new play
Dublin People 05 Nov 2011
ONE
of the oldest community based drama groups in Dublin is inviting Northsiders to
their latest hilarious play.
The
Riverside Drama Circle’s production of
‘The Chameleon of Montrose’ is set in
the Naomh Barrog GAA club in Kilbarrack, and charts the evening of a group of
friends meeting up at the request of their friend Kay, a massive Gaybo fan.
Kay
hasn’t told them why she wants to meet up.
And
so, as they arrive into the clubhouse after watching the under-12’s team they
manage, and after getting what they consider awful treatment from an unfair
ref, Kay enthusiastically announces that they are all there for the inaugural
meeting of the North County Dublin Gabriel Mary Byrne Fan Club.
However,
it quickly becomes apparent that not everyone is as much of a fan of Gaybo as
she would have hoped, and that in actual fact, some of them consider him to be
nothing more than a bit of a know it all.
The
discussion rages on for some time, until a decision is reached to settle their
differences of opinion once and for all, by the method developed by Gaybo
himself on the Late Late Show – the Soapbox Debate.
It’s
a comedy in two acts, and a play that encourages audience participation at
various points throughout the performance.
Riverside
Drama Circle is the oldest community based group in Dublin, and next year it
will be celebrating 40 years entertaining the people on the Northside.
Performances
of
‘The Chameleon of Montrose’ run from Monday 21 to Wednesday 23, November at
8pm nightly.
Tickets
are available from Elaine on 018572892, Declan on 087-2233475 or Alice on
