Dublin People website up for premier award

THE new-look
website for Northside and Southside People newspapers has been shortlisted for
a prestigious internet accolade.

Dublinpeople.com is now in line for an eircom Spider
Award, an annual competition that honours Irish individuals and organisations
for outstanding achievements online.

The revamped Dublinpeople.com website was launched
just last month and is already proving a big hit with readers. All the top news
stories from both Northside and Southside People are featured on the site as
well as dedicated sections for features, motoring and local noticeboards.

Readers can also keep up to date by following the
papers on Facebook at Facebook .com/dublinpeople and Twitter at
Twitter.comdublinpeople.

Advertisers too are taking advantage of the popularity
of the site in the Dublin region with regular clients snapping up banner ads
and

’tile’ space at competitive rates.

Editor of the site, Jack Gleeson, says the website
gives readers a chance to keep up to date with Dublin’s local news and share
stories with friends and relatives who may have moved out of the capital.

“The site comes live every Monday morning, which may
suit readers who don’t manage to get a copy of the paper until later in the
week,

? he added.

“We focus on important stories that don’t always get
the attention they merit in national media and local reaction to the bigger
issues.

“The feedback we’ve been getting is really positive
and we’re delighted that our efforts have been recognised with our successful
nomination in the eircom Spider Awards.

Dublin People Online Division Manager, Louise Hogan,
said the site would be continued to be developed over the coming weeks.

“Our clients have responded with enthusiasm to our new
website advertising options and we are committed to continue with an exciting
online strategy,

? she added.

“We already have lots of content, whether you to wish
read the local news, interact with our online polls, find out what’s going on
in your area from our noticeboard, buy or sell in our online classified section
or even find a date.

“Another new section soon to be rolled out is
dublinpeopledeals.com, which will feature great half price deals for everything
from hotel breaks to pampering packages.

“Watch this space as this is just the beginning of
what is to come on dublinpeople.com.

Tony McCullagh, joint managing director of the Dublin
People Group, said that all newspapers needed to rise to the challenges
presented by the arrival of the multi-media age.

“It’s a question of staying true to your core product
– in our case, three weekly newspapers – while offering readers and advertisers
added value,

? he said.

“While we are proud of our long history in print
media, we fully recognise the changing landscape of the multi-media age. We
intend to combine the strength of our newspapers by developing new symmetries
with our redesigned website, as well as linking these products to social media
like Facebook and Twitter.

He added:

“We have invested in our online activities
at a time when all businesses are looking at cutting back on their costs.
However, we believe it is an investment that will pay off for us in terms of
generating new revenue streams and bringing our newspaper content to the widest
possible audience.
