Firefighters show the way for Halloween
Dublin People 22 Oct 2011
DUBLIN
Lord Mayor, Andrew Montague, was on hand at Finglas Civic Centre on Mellowes
Road last week to officially launch this year’s Dublin Fire Brigade safety
campaign.
Members
of the Fire Brigade, local gardai and the DSPCA were there too to talk to local
school children about celebrating Halloween safely.
This
year’s message is
‘Be Safe – Stay Safe’ and the campaign is aimed at ensuring
everybody gets to enjoy the Halloween celebrations in a safe environment.
A
Halloween safety pack containing leaflets and posters has been sent to primary
schools in Dublin as part of the campaign and there’s also a safety DVD made by
Dublin Fire Brigade available for viewing online at dublincity.ie.
“Bonfires
and fireworks at Halloween are extremely dangerous and cause a lot of injuries
to people young and old,
? the Lord Mayor said.
“They
also cause a lot of damage to local parks, greens and open spaces. Every year
Dublin Fire, Emergency Ambulance and Rescue Service sees hundreds of lives, and
some buildings, put at risk.
“Halloween
is about dressing up, trick-or-treating and having fun with your family and
friends nobody wants to end their night with a trip to the hospital. Fireworks
and bonfires are dangerous and should never be played with.

The
Halloween campaign coincides with Finglas Community Safety Week which runs from
October 31 to November 6. Organised by the Finglas Safety Forum, the week will
see a wide range of activities and initiatives designed to make the area a
safer place to live and work.
