SAFETY FIRST: Luke Meredith (9) from St Kevin’s School is pictured at the launch of the Finglas Community Safety Week.

A
FUN festival on Halloween night will kick-start the first ever Finglas
Community Safety Week, which runs from October 31 to November 6.

The
safety week is the Finglas Safety Forum’s first initiative and it’ll feature a
range of activities, beginning with the Finglas Fright Night Halloween
Festival.

The
festival starts at 5.30pm with a Zombie Parade leaving Barry Shops which will
make its way up to the Finglas Civic Offices on Mellows Road where there will
be a range of activities including puppet shows, a haunted graveyard and a
selection of fun, traditional games for all ages.

The
evening will end with a spectacular fireworks display at 8pm.

Other
events organised during the week include safety talks, bicycle skills and stunt
challenges, open days at Finglas Garda Station and Finglas Fire Station, a
sports activity bonanza and a late night football league.

The
week ends with

‘Finglas Memories’, an event organised by the Order of Malta
which will include an exhibition of images of old Finglas.

The
initiative has been organised by a multi-agency working group which comprises
representatives from the local community including the Friends of Finglas
group, Finglas Safety Forum, Dublin City Council, An Garda Síochána, Order of
Malta, Dublin Fire Brigade and local residents.

At
the launch, one local community representative from the working group said the
group had tried to organise a range of activities and events to cater for all
ages.

“The
aim of the week is to increase awareness of community safety, provide useful
advice and information on a range of issues, such as personal safety and fire
safety, and provide opportunities for agencies such as Dublin City Council and
An Garda Síochána to engage with the local community,

? She said.

The
local community is being urged to support Finglas Community Safety Week and to
attend organised events. Further information is available from the coordinator
of Finglas Safety Forum who can be contacted on 086-4115783 or by email on
