Youth club issues bogus collection warning
Dublin People 01 Oct 2011A NORTHSIDE youth
club is urging members of the public to be wary of bogus callers attempting to
collect money for the organisation.

Jackie Bride,
chairperson of Malahide Youth Club, contacted Northside People to report that
two teenage girls have been going around doors looking for money for a
‘sponsored walk’.
“We don’t go
around collecting at the doors and anyway we are not allowed to fundraise in
this way,
? said Ms Bride.
Annoying
“It’s so annoying
especially when you see all the great work that goes into the club.
“We are affiliated
to Catholic Youth Care (CYC) and receive funding from them once a year.
“We have a
fantastic relationship with St Sylvester’s Church and they allow us to collect
once a year but this is only inside the church grounds.
Concerned
“We are extremely
concerned by these incidents and would urge people to be vigilant and contact
the gardai if they are suspicious.
?
Ms Bride said the
incident was brought to the club’s attention when the teenage girls called at
the door of one of their young members and his mother became suspicious.
“They said they
were collecting for a sponsored walk and showed our member’s mother a card with
a name on it,
? she said.
Members
Malahide Youth
Club was formed eight years ago and is based at the Parish Hall to the rear of
St Sylvester’s Church. It has approximately 35 members ranging in age from
eight to 12.
“We get a lot of
volunteers and support from the community and wouldn’t want people in Malahide
to feel that we are looking for money off them,
? added Ms Bride.
