LOOK after your
girls and talk to friends about breast cancer. That was the resounding message
from the Marie Keating Foundation at the launch of its 10th annual Breast
Cancer Awareness campaign.

Every year, almost
3,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer in Ireland.

This month, the
Foundation is calling on people across the Northside to learn about breast
cancer and then to talk to the women in their lives about it.

The annual
campaign is, for the ninth year, proudly supported by Marks & Spencer.

Dublin-born
singing sensation Imelda May, who supported her mother through her breast
cancer journey some years ago, launched the campaign.

“I am proud to
support this campaign on behalf of the Marie Keating Foundation,

? she said.

“It is so
important for women to talk to each other about breast cancer so that it is
easier to speak up if you think something might be wrong.

“The message is
clear: the earlier breast cancer is caught the better so look after your
girls.

Lillian McGovern,
chief executive of the Marie Keating Foundation, said when it comes to breast
cancer, the first line of defence is having access to accurate information that
will ultimately aid early detection.

“Thankfully,
improved standards of treatment and care and of course, Breast Check our national
screening service, are playing vital roles in improving survival rates,

? stated
Ms McGovern.

Throughout this
month, the Foundation’s Mobile Information Units will be travelling across the
country, staffed with registered nurses, bringing a free and confidential
cancer information services into hundreds of communities and workplaces.

Free breast cancer
information packs are also available by logging onto www.mariekeating.ie or
calling 01-6283726.

Also, Marks &
Spencer Ireland will be selling various

‘pink’ items in-store in aid of the
Foundation.
