Bank staff creates garden for MS centre
Dublin People 26 Sep 2011
RESIDENTS at the
MS Care Centre in Rathgar will be enjoying a beautiful new raised garden this spring
thanks to a dedicated brigade of volunteers from Ulster Bank.
Through the
Ulster Bank Community Fund, Ulster Bank Capital & Liquidity Management
donated
?¬16,300 towards the construction of the raised garden for wheelchair
users.
The plots will
be elevated so that wheelchair users can perform gardening activities while
staying at the centre.
Seven Ulster
Bank volunteers helped with weeding and clearing the garden and power washing
the footpaths in anticipation of construction that set to be completed in the
spring.
Work on the
raised gardens will be completed over the coming weeks, which will include
removing some large trees from the grounds.
The MS Care
Centre in Rathgar offers short-term respite care for people with Multiple
Sclerosis. It is also Ireland’s only therapy centre for people with the
condition.
It offers
therapeutic services, neurological assessments and many social activities in a
homely environment on the Southside.
Marguerite
Gaffney of Ulster Bank said they had a long history of working with local
communities.
“Helping out at
a wonderful facility like the MS Care Centre is immensely rewarding for our
employees and is a great way to give something back,
? she said.
“We thoroughly
enjoyed helping to transform the garden for the enjoyment of everyone. It was a
great way to spend a day.

As part of their
community investment programme Ulster Bank is offering all staff the option to
take one day per year to volunteer with a worthwhile organisation or charity.
