Students told to behave on Dublin Bus

Dublin People 17 Sep 2011

UCD students
have been told not to engage in anti-social behaviour when using Dublin Bus
services.

The warning
comes after Dublin Bus threatened to withdraw services to UCD following an
incident last week.

It is understood
that a number of students who left the student bar on last Monday (September
12) had allegedly caused problems on a bus to the city centre.

Student Union
president, Pat de Brun, said one more incident would lead to a total withdrawal
of bus services to the university.

“On the first
day of term students had a few drinks in the student bar,

? he said.

“They later
left on a bus from the campus to the city centre.

“We got a call
from Dublin Bus to say a large number of students caused problems on the bus.
We were told that they were throwing things and being very loud.

“Dublin Bus
provides a vital service to all students and we can’t let the actions of a few
ruin it for everyone. Bus drivers must be allowed to do their job without the
added complications of dealing with unruly passengers. I want everyone to
consider their actions when using the service for the coming year.

Dublin Bus
spokesperson Maria Brennan said services to UCD were stopped for a short
period.

“We had to
divert routes to the college for a short period until we took the matter up
with the student union,

? she explained.

“This happens in a lot of areas
throughout Dublin, but we are quite happy that the issue has been resolved. We
have worked closely with the college and we are certain this won’t happen
again.
