THE LOCAL
community in Mounttown turned out to celebrate the opening of their new
state-of-the-art community centre recently.

The official
opening of Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council’s Mounttown Community Facility
off the Lower Mounttown Road attracted hundreds of local people to the event,
which featured the Garda Band, the Artane Band and a whole host of family
activities.

Management has
been busily promoting the centre over the last few months to a range of service
providers, who have now established activities such as bridge clubs, youth
groups, childcare, dance and fitness classes and very popular boxing clubs.

Speaking at the
launch, cathaoirleach Cllr John Bailey (FG) highlighted the cooperation between
the council, outside agencies and the community to get the centre off the
ground.

“This is both a
new beginning and a celebration of what has been achieved to date,

? he said.

“There have been many challenges in arriving at this point, and we must now
move forward in a spirit of community to develop a centre that really does
become the heart and soul of the area.

He also urged
the local community to avail of the new facility and all that is now on offer.

“The doors are
now open and there are fantastic opportunities for adults and children alike to
get involved in a range of different programmes,

? he added.

“There is something
for everyone.

The new centre is a modern and well-equipped
facility situated in Meadowlands estate, just off the Lower Mounttown Road, in
Dun Laoghaire. The space covers three floors, features a large hall, a purpose
built childcare facility with a secure playground, a fully-fitted computer room,
designated youth space, and several programme rooms, as well as office space.
