Dublin firefighters depart for World Games

contingent of Dublin firefighters travelled across the Atlantic last week to
take part in the World Police and Fire Games 2011.
The
games, which will coincide with the tenth an- niversary of 9/11, are the second
biggest multi-sport event in the world after the Olympics with up to 15,000
athletes expected to participate.
The
Dublin contingent are entering in a range of disciplines including swimming,
soccer, golf, boxing, athletics, triathlon, rowing and surfing.
The
team has been training consistently for the
past
18 months and are hopeful of building on past success in previous games.
Dublin
Lord Mayor, Andrew Montague, is back- ing the local firefighters in their bid
for sporting glory.
“We are very proud of our firefighters in Dublin and I wish
all of them travelling to New York the very best of luck in the World Police
and Fire Games
