SUSI applications open for 24/25 academic year

Dublin People 04 Apr 2024

SUSI, the national grant awarding authority, is now open for new student grant applications for academic year 2024/25.

Students are advised to apply early at www.susi.ie, as a high number of applications are expected over the coming months.

Eleanor Murphy, SUSI’s Communications and Customer Service Manager advised:

“SUSI is now accepting applications for student funding for academic year 2024/25. A number of changes have been made to the student grant scheme so if you’re planning on attending further or higher education in the next academic year, go to www.susi.ie and check out our Eligibility Indicator. This is a quick and easy way to see if you might be eligible for funding.”

She continued: “As announced in Budget 2024, maintenance grants have been reintroduced for eligible postgraduate students and maintenance grant rates have increased for all eligible PLC, undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The income threshold for the Band 4 maintenance grant has increased from €46,790 to €50,840 while the threshold for the 100% student contribution grant has increased from €50,840 to €55,924.

The amount a student can now earn outside term time has also increased from €6,552 to €7,925.

And remember, the €500 student contribution fee grant introduced last year is still available for eligible undergraduate students from households earning between €62,000 and €100,000. For more information, check out www.susi.ie.”

She added: “Be sure to submit your application before the priority processing dates to receive priority assessment. And don’t forget, if you received funding in academic year 2023/24 and are progressing to the next year of your course, you must submit a renewal application.”

SUSI opened for renewal applications on 7 March 2024 and to date, has received over 10,000 renewal applications. SUSI aims to have a decision with as many applicants as possible before the start of the new academic year and applications received on or before the priority processing dates will receive priority assessment. The priority processing dates are 6 June 2024 for renewal applications and 11 July 2024 for new applications.

Students do not need to have their Leaving Cert results or to have accepted a course to apply. They can simply supply the details of the course they hope to study and update their course choice online at a later date.

SUSI received over 104,000 applications in academic year 2023/24 with over 83,000 students awarded funding.

For more information on making an application, students can check out www.susi.ie. They can also contact SUSI’s dedicated Support Desk by phone, email or on Twitter and Facebook.
