Dublin City Council preparing for Storm Austen
Padraig Conlon 21 Oct 2026
Dublin City Council is making proactive preparations in advance of forecast heavy rainfall associated with Storm Austen, which is expected to affect Dublin from Thursday night, 22 October, into Friday morning, 23 October.
Dublin City Council’s Flood Response Team is preparing for the potential impacts of heavy rainfall across the city and has put measures in place to respond quickly should localised flooding occur.
As part of these preparations, crews are clearing fallen leaves and debris where necessary, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, where drainage gullies can become obstructed during periods of heavy autumn rainfall.
Dublin City Council crews will be on the ground overnight monitoring conditions and responding to any issues that may arise.
Public Advice
Members of the public can help reduce the risk of localised flooding by:
- Avoiding parking over drainage gullies to allow water to drain freely.
- Taking extra care when travelling during periods of heavy rainfall.
- Reporting urgent flooding incidents or hazards outside normal working hours.
Dublin City Council says it will continue to monitor weather forecasts and conditions closely and will provide updates as necessary through its website and social media channels.
