Dublin mum Leanne Flynn has been nominated for the 2026 Beko & Woman’s Way Mum of the Year Award, becoming the eight nominee in this year’s prestigious awards.

The childcare worker came to national attention when she risked her own life to protect children during a violent knife crime in Dublin’s city centre, during which she herself was stabbed.

Almost three years on, her resilience shines through and she is quick to thank her strong network of friends and family for their continued support over the extremely difficult time.

Born and raised in Dublin, Leanne grew up on the North Strand with her parents and two brothers before moving to Phibsborough when she was 12 years old.

She met her now partner Anthony over 20 years ago and the pair have two children, Josh (11) and Layla (6) (all pictured above).

“They’re amazing kids. They are an extension of me and Anthony and watching them grow is just amazing” Leanne adds.

When asked what she loves most about being a mother, she responds: “For me I’m happiest when I’m around children.

“Give me 40 children over 40 adults any day of the week”.

She is also very keen to emphasize the amazing women who have had such an influence on her own life citing her own late mother, Bridie Flynn who she says she wouldn’t be who she is now without her.

A full interview with Leanne is available to read in the latest edition of Woman’s Way magazine.

The Beko Woman’s Way Mum of the Year Awards are back in 2026 for an incredible 23rd year with Beko proudly supporting the awards for more than a decade.

The Awards celebrate Ireland’s amazing mothers and shine a light on women who quietly and consistently make life better, for their families, society and everyone around them.

Open to mums throughout Ireland, the accolade gives spouses, children, relatives, friends and community groups the opportunity to recognise and reward the fantastic work mums do for their families and friends.

A landmark event in the social calendar, the awards celebrate the strength, dedication and community contribution of mothers in Ireland.

Finalists will be treated to a fabulous afternoon at a special awards ceremony later in the year where the prestigious title as Beko & Woman’s Way Mum of the Year Award will be awarded.

Celebrity Mum of the Year and a Special Recognition Award will also be honoured at the event.

Each finalist will receive a top-of-the-range CaffeExperto bean-to-cup coffee machine while the winner will receive a €2,500 voucher to spend on Beko appliances.
