Andrews compares Trump/Iran deal to reverse Treaty of Versailles

Fianna Fáil MEP Barry Andrews has called Donald Trump’s proposed peace deal with Iran a “reverse Treaty of Versailles.”

“While the US/Iran deal is not yet published, if what has been reported is correct, then President Trump just bombed another country for nothing, killed a lot of innocent people, including school children, and in the end just embarrassed the United States,” the Fianna Fáil MEP said.

“The nasty Iranian regime has only been strengthened with a new generation of hardliners in charge. They will get what amounts to billions of dollars in reparations, they will get a pullback of US forces in any final agreement, and reportedly a commitment of non-aggression,” Andrews asserted.

“At the same time, Trump betrayed even his own allies who supported his illegal war and achieved nothing on preventing Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon or on disarming Hezbollah,” he noted.

“This deal looks like a Treaty of Versailles in reverse for President Trump; the effects will be long-lasting,” he predicted.
