Specsavers Crumlin celebrates 10 years in business
Dublin People 06 Mar 2026
Specsavers Crumlin recently marked a significant milestone, celebrating its 10-year anniversary since first opening its doors in February 2016.
The occasion was joyfully commemorated with a vibrant day of festivities at Ashleaf Shopping Centre on Saturday, February 28th, bringing together staff, customers, and valued community partners to reflect on a decade of dedicated service and growth.
The celebration at Ashleaf Shopping Centre was a testament to Specsavers Crumlin’s strong commitment to local engagement and grassroots sport. Attendees enjoyed music, a lively “Spin the Wheel” giveaway, and appearances from the much-loved Big Ear mascot, who distributed prizes. A 360-photo booth captured fun memories, adding to the festive atmosphere. A particular highlight of the day was the welcome for sponsored partners, Crumlin GAA and the girls’ team from Terenure Rangers Football Club, who were presented with their brand-new Specsavers jerseys and bibs. This ongoing partnership reinforces Specsavers Crumlin’s dedication to supporting local sports initiatives and fostering community engagement.
Since its inception, Specsavers Crumlin has experienced remarkable growth, both in its services and its dedicated team. What began with a team of just ten staff members has now flourished to twenty-two, operating three state-of-the-art test rooms all day, every day, and a thriving audiology service six days a week. This growth is mirrored in the impressive career progressions within the store. Philip Kavanagh, who joined as an Optical Assistant in the store’s opening year, exemplifies this journey. His enthusiasm, dedication, and strong commitment to patient care saw him continually develop his skills and leadership abilities, progressing to become the store’s manager. His journey is a testament to his hard work, and outside of work, his active involvement with Crumlin GAA reflects the values upheld by the store.

Edwina McKinney, Director at Specsavers Crumlin, has had a two-decade long journey with Specsavers, which culminated in the opening of the Crumlin store. She considers opening the Specsavers store in Crumlin ten years ago as her proudest career moment, having watched it evolve from a small new opening into a busy, community-centred business. Edwina believes that the success of Specsavers Crumlin extends beyond numbers, emphasising the culture of development she has fostered within the store. Her aim is for staff to leave more confident, skilled, and ambitious than when they started, and she finds it deeply rewarding to see people flourish.
Specsavers Crumlin’s commitment to community extends globally and locally. Edwina proudly recounts being part of the first group from Specsavers Ireland to travel to Kolkata with The Hope Foundation, witnessing first-hand the life-changing impact of accessible eye care in underserved communities. She expressed immense pride that Specsavers as a company not only talks about purpose but actively lives it. Closer to home, community has always been at the heart of the locally owned Crumlin store. In addition to sponsoring Crumlin GAA’s kids’ camps and the Terenure Rangers girls’ football team, the store has also supported Terenure Bowling Club through its audiology partners. Edwina emphasises that contributing meaningfully to the local community brings a real feel-good factor, and she champions the principle that when you invest in your community, they invest back in you. She adds that from the moment she arrived, she felt an immediate connection to Crumlin’s warmth, pride, and energy. Serving that community, building relationships with families who return year after year, and becoming part of the fabric of the area has been a privilege.
Summing up the ten-year milestone, Edwina McKinney, Director at Specsavers Crumlin, said, “Reaching our 10th anniversary is an incredibly proud moment for the entire team at Specsavers Crumlin. Building this business from the ground up and embedding ourselves within the fabric of the Crumlin community has been a privilege. This celebration is not just about a milestone, but about thanking our loyal customers, celebrating our fantastic team, and honouring the community that has supported us every step of the way.”
Specsavers Crumlin looks forward to many more years of serving the local community with exceptional eye and ear care, continued team development, and unwavering community support.
