Fianna Fáil’s Dublin reps meet with assistant Garda commissioner

Fianna Fáil Dublin TDs and Senators met this week with the new Assistant Garda Commissioner for the Dublin Metropolitan Region, Jonathan Roberts for a “frank and focused discussion” on policing priorities across the capital.
Led by Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Justice, Deputy Tom Brabazon, the delegation raised ongoing community concerns around visible Garda presence, street-level drug dealing, anti-social behaviour and public transport safety.
Deputy Brabazon said the meeting was an opportunity to be clear about the issues being raised consistently by constituents.
Deputy Brabazon said:
“Communities across Dublin want to see Gardaí on the ground. They want stronger community policing, a firm response to open drug dealing and anti-social behaviour and reassurance that public transport is being properly monitored and patrolled,”.
“I am hearing on a daily basis that people are noticing an increased Garda presence on our streets. That is welcome and must continue. The key now is to ensure that, working closely with An Garda Síochána, those resources are directed to the areas where they are most needed and where communities are feeling the greatest pressure.”
The use of scramblers in housing estates and public spaces was also discussed, with TDs and Senators highlighting the safety risks and frustration being expressed locally.
Preparations for the forthcoming EU Presidency were raised, particularly in terms of operational planning and resource allocation.
Deputy Brabazon said the discussion was constructive but emphasised that visible delivery will be key.
“This was an important meeting, and I hope it is just the beginning of us working together to improve our city and county. The focus now must be on ensuring that resources are directed where communities feel the pressure most and that people see a consistent Garda presence in their areas.”
