Just 3 bus shelters built in Dublin in 2025, figures reveal

Just three bus shelters were built in Dublin in 2025, a figure which Green TD Roderic O’Gorman says is a “total collapse” and an indication of how the government have put public transport on the backburner.

New figures provided to Green Party Leader Roderic O’Gorman show a major drop in the number of bus shelters built in Dublin, from a figure of 37 in 2024 to just three in all of 2025.

Speaking in the Dáil in January, the Dublin West TD highlighted the “urgent” need for greater transit infrastructure in his constituency, noting that areas like Tyrrelstown, Hollywoodrath, and Kilmartin Grove are being “left behind” by a public transport system that cannot keep up with the area’s rapid growth.

O’Gorman said, “bus shelters are the bare minimum that should be provided to commuters, but this government can’t even manage that.”

“In 2025, without the Green Party in government, only 3 new bus shelters were built across the entirety of Dublin City. That’s down from 37 the previous year, and this from the Government that promises 50,000 houses per year!,” he remarked.

The Green Party leader noted “there is a commitment in the Programme for Government to ensure that transport operators provide proper infrastructure for passengers, but just like other promises made by this government on public transport, it has fallen by the wayside”.
