Boylan and fellow Left MEPs to discuss European issues in Cyprus visit

Housing, the cost of living, climate change and the rise of new conflicts around the world will all be discussed at a meeting of MEPs in Cyprus this week.
A number of MEPs from The Left group will meet with other progressive politicians, unions, and organisations that are focused on tackling these issues.
Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan said the trip is a “great opportunity to see how these issues are impacting in a different country and to plan how we can tackle them in Ireland.”
Boylan said that sharing best practices is the only way to tackle the issues that matter to Irish voters.
“Housing, the rising cost of living, climate change and conflict are all issues that people in Ireland are worried about,” she said.
“This past week, we’ve seen even more flooding devastate parts of Ireland, while the government continues to talk, while doing very little to tackle climate change or to protect communities that are threatened by it.”
“These issues are real for people in other parts of Europe as well.
“In Cyprus we’ll see the impact of all of these issues, as well as the impact of recent and ongoing conflict, including the continued presence of British military bases on the island; many of the problems we face today can be traced back to these four key issues, and the EU needs to make tackling these issues a priority, not grubby trade deals and militarisation,” she said.
