Lord Mayor of Dublin to open Book of Condolence for Sister Stan

Padraig Conlon 03 Nov 2025

The Lord Mayor of Dublin Cllr Ray McAdam will open a book of condolence at the Mansion House following the death of Sr. Stanislaus Kennedy.

It will be open tomorrow, November 4 and Wednesday, November 5 from 10am to 4pm on both days.

“There are not many people in Irish society who are instantly recognisable by one name, but then again there are not many people as popular as Sister Stan was,” said the Lord Mayor.

“It is very sad news to hear of her passing, and on behalf of the ciitzens of Dublin I send my sincere condolences to her family and many friends.

“Sister Stan pioneered housing led solutions to homelessness in Ireland, breaking away from traditional institutional responses.

“She promoted secure housing as the foundation stone with supports added around the person, as needed.

“As a person she was a highly intelligent, warm, funny woman and a champion of social justice in everything she did.”

Sister Stan was presented with a Lord Mayor’s Award in 1996 by then Lord Mayor Sean Dublin Bay-Rockhall Loftus.

An online book of condolence will also be available to sign at this link: engage.dublincity.ie/en-IE/projects/book-of-condolence-sr-stanislaus-kennedy
