Murphy condemns bombing of lead Global Sumud Flotilla ship

Dublin People 09 Sep 2025

People Before Profit TD Paul Murphy has criticised the Israeli government for bombing a ship in the Global Sumud Flotilla.

Overnight, Israeli forces hit the ship with a drone.

All on board are safe, and the fire was extinguished.

The Dublin South-West TD said, “this attack was carried out in Tunisian waters. I have no doubt the attack was carried out by Israeli forces in yet another flagrant breach of international law. It needs to be stated and restated – Israel is a terrorist state.”

Murphy explained, “the Global Sumud Flotilla is a humanitarian aid mission of more than 50 boats with participants from 44 countries. The flotilla aims to break Israel’s siege of Gaza and bring food and medical supplies to the people of Gaza. We are trying to do what the governments of the world should be doing. But instead the governments continue to be complicit in Israel’s genocide.”

“The Israeli state is capable of anything to continue the famine it has created in Gaza, but this attack will not deter the flotilla. Our peaceful humanitarian mission continues and we are almost ready to set sail for Gaza. Palestine will be free”.

Sinn Féin MEP Lynn Boylan is also on board the flotilla to Gaza.

Ahead of the voyage, the Dublin MEP said, “our role will be to witness any actions taken by Israel against the flotilla and the legality of these actions.”

“Given how Israel has conducted itself with the latest flotilla aid ships, its vital that an accurate record is kept of their actions.”

“Israel is a rogue state, their deliberate blocking of all humanitarian aid from entering Gaza is just the latest in their long list of war crimes, and crimes against humanity,” she said.
