Thousands to join Dublin Simon’s 42nd Home Run to help tackle record homelessness
Padraig Conlon 21 Aug 2025
With homelessness figures at an all-time high, thousands are set to take part in Dublin Simon Community’s 42nd annual Home Run this October.
The much-loved 5-kilometre event in Phoenix Park invites walkers, joggers and runners to come together on Saturday, 4th October, raising vital funds to support people experiencing homelessness.
Registration is now open at www.dubsimon.ie/home-run, with a €30 entry fee.
All proceeds will go directly towards Dublin Simon’s life-saving services, which last year supported more than 6,000 people and families across emergency accommodation, outreach, treatment, counselling and long-term housing.
This year, pets are welcome too.
Pet bandanas can be purchased at registration, with the first 50 pets receiving a free toy from Petmania, which will also sponsor a prize for the Best Pet on the day.
Participants are encouraged to see their entry fee as just the beginning. By starting fundraising early, supporters can maximise their impact.
The charity is asking each participant to aim for at least €100, with a limited-edition Home Run t-shirt awarded once €50 is raised.
Shirts are also available to purchase for €15, with fundraising tips available on the Dublin Simon website.
The 5-kilometre route is accessible to all ages and abilities.
Whether you walk, jog, run, hop or dance to the finish line, the Home Run is all about community spirit.
Previous participants have included schools, walking groups, parents with buggies, wheelchair users, elite runners, active retirement clubs and corporate teams, all united by a shared goal to end homelessness.
Additionally, the 2025 Home Run will see Dualway operate a shuttle bus service from Parkgate Street before the race, with bookings available upon registration.
The first wave begins at 9.30 am, with family and friends encouraged to cheer participants along the route.
Since its founding in 1983, the Home Run has raised essential funds to support Dublin Simon’s work. In 2023 alone, the charity’s Outreach team recorded 6,706 interventions with people sleeping rough, delivered 2,022 hours of counselling and suicide crisis support, and assisted 6,061 people and families across all services.
Commenting on the 2025 Home Run, Dublin Simon Community CEO Catherine Kenny said:
“This is more than a fun run; it is a movement powered by people who care.
“With the number of people experiencing homelessness continuing to rise, now more than ever, we must come together and harness the power of community to drive change.
“Home Run is a shining example of what’s possible when participants, staff, volunteers, clients and supporters unite for a common cause.
“This event raises vital funds to support people experiencing homelessness, while offering a fun, feel-good way to give back.
“Since 1983, we have been making a real difference, and we remain committed to standing beside those who need us most.
“Join us on October 4th to show your support, raise your voice and take a step towards ending homelessness for good.”
It is our time to end homelessness.
