The Alzheimer Society of Ireland’s (The ASI) Friends of ASI is hosting a dementia-inclusive community event in Ringsend & Irishtown Community Centre, on Wednesday, 18th June at 12.15pm.

Officially launched by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Emma Blain, the event aims to raise awareness and provide practical information about how communities, businesses, and local services can create a more inclusive and supportive environment for people living with dementia and their families.

The event is being run in partnership with Ringsend & Irishtown Community Centre and Dublin City Council’s South East Area Office.

Speaking ahead of the event, Lord Mayor of Dublin, Emma Blain, said: “As Lord Mayor of Dublin, one of my key priorities is dementia awareness and creating a dementia inclusive city and today I am delighted to launch this dementia-inclusive community event in Ringsend & Irishtown.

“Feeling valued, included and understood is an incredibly important aspect of living well with dementia and our local communities have the power to create environments that are welcoming and accessible and can have a hugely positive contribution to the lives of people living with dementia, their carers and their families.”

Siobhan O’Connor, Head of Operations and Community Engagement at The ASI said: “The Friends of ASI is thrilled to be able to convene events that aim to encourage local communities to become more dementia-inclusive.

“The event in Ringsend and Irishtown is a brilliant opportunity for the local community to gain a greater understanding of what it’s like to live with dementia and learn about the many different ways that they can support people with dementia and their families.”

The Friends of ASI is a dementia-inclusive programme; includes training, awareness, education, and services.

The initiative is working alongside the HSE’s Dementia: Understand Together campaign. Dementia: Understand Together, a national partnership between The ASI, HSE, Age Friendly Ireland, Age & Opportunity, Dementia Services Information and Development Centre, and Healthy Ireland, encourages community members and people living with dementia to make their communities more dementia-inclusive.
