ESB collaborates with local councils to launch three shared EV eHubs
Padraig Conlon 07 Apr 2025
ESB is today launching a new pilot which sees three EV-only eHubs opened in Malahide, Sandyford Business Park and Swords.

These purpose built eHubs will each include an ESB charge station and two shared EVs available to book at the sites.
ESB’s innovation team has collaborated with Fingal County Council and Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to develop transportation options ensuring that electric vehicles are accessible to a broad range of people, while contributing to more sustainable and connected communities.
Electric vehicles available at each site will be provided by car share operators GoCar and Yuko and will be integrated into the suppliers’ existing car share booking apps, making it easier for users to book.
The eHubs pilot project aims to make shared electric vehicles affordable and accessible, leading the way for greener, more sustainable communities.
Donal Phelan, Head of Innovation, ESB Group, said: “Adopting cleaner technologies and sustainable practices, can greatly reduce the transportation sector’s carbon footprint and make a substantial impact on our journey towards a net zero future.
“We are delighted to be working with Fingal County Council and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council to develop these innovative eHubs at prime locations in Dublin to aid in the promotion of sustainable transportation options.
“By providing convenient access to shared EVs, these eHubs will encourage more residents and businesses to opt for sustainable travel solutions.”
Cllr Jim O’Leary, Cathaoirleach, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council said: “We are proud to announce the launch of a new electric car share scheme in Sandyford Business District, in partnership with ESB, Go Car, and Yuko.
“This initiative directly supports our Climate Action Plan 2024-2029, which champions the expansion of EV car sharing.
“With its concentration of over 1,000 businesses, 26,000 employees, and 6,000 residents, Sandyford Business District is the ideal location to pilot this sustainable transport solution.”
Cllr Brian McDonagh, Mayor of Fingal said: “Fingal County Council is proud to fully support the eHubs pilot project, which provides our community with an accessible pathway to electric transportation while promoting a cleaner, greener future.
“This initiative not only supports sustainable energy solutions but also strengthens the connections within our community, paving the way for a more environmentally conscious future for generations to come.”
