Our Shoes Campaign 2025 – Donate pre-loved shoes to South African townships

Padraig Conlon 28 Jan 2025

The Our Shoes Campaign is reaching out to invite Dublin students, schools and clubs to participate again in Our Shoes 2025 Campaign.

This is an impactful initiative that fosters a spirit of community and charity among young people.

Our Shoes is an Irish charity who collect pre-loved sports shoes directly from schools for donation to South African children, these donations are distributed to children in need by NGO’s on the ground.

They are currently running their 2025 Campaign, which aims to bridge continents through individual acts of kindness.

By donating pre-loved sports shoes, your students will help reignite hope, restore dignity, and open doors to new opportunities for children in African townships.

This campaign not only empowers children to walk confidently towards a brighter future but also fosters meaningful connections that transcend borders.

The charity says it is encouraging schools to seize this opportunity to make a tangible difference in the lives of children in need.

They are asking schools and clubs to get involved & run your own campaign in school, by registering for Our Shoes Campaign 2025:

To participate, the Our Shoes Campaign are kindly asking all schools to complete a new registration for 2025, even if they have been involved in previous campaigns.

Interested schools can register by visiting https://www.ourshoes.ie/registerschool and clicking the REGISTER button.

The Our Shoes Charity was established in 2019 after Ciarán McHugh, Kevin Grant and Geoff Lockwood visited the Khayelitsha township in Cape Town, home to 2.4 million people.

Our Shoes ran two pilot appeals which saw the donation of 15,000 pairs of sports shoes which had outlived their intended use in Ireland, but which still have lots of life left in them.

Five years later, Our Shoes ship thousands of shoes to Southern Africa (50,000 pairs to date) where they are distributed to some of the most deserving kids in the townships.

Munster Rugby are supporting Our Shoes and already, their senior men’s players are getting behind the initiative by donating rugby boots and general sneakers/trainers.

Here’s an update from 2024 Campaign – Don’t miss out this year!

Reflecting on our 2024 Campaign, we are thrilled to share that over 200 national schools participated, alongside over 40 Transition Year classes.

Together, they collected an astounding 16,000 pairs of shoes, all destined for a second life, providing hope and dignity to those in need.

During our visit to NGO’s and schools in Cape Town in February 2024, we witnessed the positive impact our efforts have had on recipients and their communities.

We invite your students to join us in making a significant difference in children’s lives while also contributing to a more sustainable planet.
