A Candlelight Vigil to remember those who have passed away by suicide will take place outside Tallaght Library (Opposite The Civic Theatre) tonight, September 10th at 8pm.

The vigil which will mark World Suicide Prevention Day is also for those who are struggling with their mental health.

The event will feature music and poetry as well as some words from local mental health organisations and it will finish with the lighting of candles in memory of those who have passed away by suicide.

The event is supported by local mental health organisations such as NINA for Life Suicide Awareness, Hope – Suicide Prevention Drop In Centre, and Walk & Talkas well as County Library who have kindly offered to host the event.

Talking about the event, organiser Luke Clerkin said: “Over the past year, I have heard of multiple people passing away by suicide in Tallaght, one of them being an old house mate of mine, which is what made me put this event together.

“Losing somebody to suicide is something that’s extremely tragic, and it leaves behind so many unanswered questions and there’s so much grief attached to that.

“We want to be able to give people the opportunity to remember those who have passed away by suicide, and for them to be able to do it with other people who understand what they’re going through.

“We also want to be able to show anybody struggling with suicidal thoughts or ideations that there is another option, that there is help out there, which is why we’ll have people from mental health organisations present on the night.”
