Fingal County Council encourages people to check if they are registered to vote

Fingal County Council have encouraged people to check if they are eligible to vote ahead of the upcoming referendums.

Fingal voters will go to the polls on March 8th to vote on potentially changing the 39th Amendment (the role of the family) and the 40th Amendment (role of carers).

If you are eligible to vote and not on the register of electors, you must apply on or before Tuesday 20th February 2024.    

The Fingal County Council said “it is now your responsibility to ensure that you’re registered to vote.”

New Registration

To be eligible to vote in a Referendum:

  • (a) You must be 18 years of age on or before Friday, 8th March 2024.
  • (b) You must be living full-time at the address at which you wish to be registered.
  • (c) You must have Irish citizenship.

How to apply:

If you applied to have your address within Fingal changed after Monday, 22nd January 2024 the change of address will not come into effect until after Friday, 8th March 2024. Therefore, you must vote from your old address for the forthcoming Referendums.

Postal Vote

Won’t be able to make it to the Polling Station on Polling Day?

If due to illness or disability or work/service or study reasons you are prevented from attending a polling station on polling day, you may be entitled to vote by post.

If you have had an illness/disability postal vote in the last general election in 2020, there is no need to re-apply.

Applications for entry onto the postal voters list must be received on or before the closing date Monday, 12th February 2024
