Man charged with three counts of attemped murder following stabbing outside creche

A 50-year-old man has been charged with eight offences, including three counts of attempted murder, in connection with a stabbing outside a creche on Parnell Square in November.

Riad Bouchaker, of no fixed abode, appeared before Dublin District Court after being arrested at Mountjoy Garda Station earlier today.

Gardaí ruled out terrorism as a motive or cause of the incident, and the court heard that Bouchaker told Gardaí “I am a sick person.”

A five-year-old girl is still in a serious condition in hospital following the stabbing, while the creche worker is still receiving treatment.

Another six-year-old girl and a five-year-old boy were also hospitalised with minor injuries but were later released.

Detective Sergeant Padraig Cleary told the court he arrested Bouchaker for the purpose of charging him at Mountjoy Garda Station.

Bouchaker was charged with two counts of the attempted murder of two female children, one count of attempted murder of a male child and one count of serious harm of a care worker.

The accused was also charged with assault causing harm to another male child and assault causing harm to another female child, the assault of a passer-by, as well as a charge of the possession and production of a 36cm kitchen knife.

Judge Byran Smyth remanded Bouchaker in custody to Cloverhill Prison to appear before Cloverhill District Court on December 28th via videolink.
