Shane MacGowan’s funeral procession through Dublin city centre to take place later

Shane MacGowan’s funeral procession through Dublin city centre will begin at South Lotts Road at approximately 11am this morning.

The carriage will be led by the Artane Band and a lone piper along South Lotts Road before then going across MacMahon Bridge and on to Pearse Street.

It will reach as far as the junction at Lomdard Street East and then turns onto Westland Row, onto Fenian Street and will conclude at Denzille Lane at approximately 11.45am.

Gardaí are advising anyone who has travel arrangements in Dublin City between 10.45am – 11.45am to be aware of traffic restrictions that will be in place along the route.

Shane MacGowan’s funeral mass will take place later at St Mary’s of the Rosary Church, Nenagh at 3.30pm.

In a statement, the late singer’s family said:

“We are thankful for the many people that loved him as a musician, songwriter and champion of Ireland and its culture and hope they are in some way repaying that loyalty by giving those that loved and admired him a chance to wish him God Speed and say slán”.
