Lord Mayor of Dublin Daithí de Róiste has expressed his condolences on the death of former Lord Mayor Ben Briscoe.

Ben Briscoe served as a Fianna Fáil Councillor for many years and was elected to the office of Lord Mayor of Dublin for 1988 to 1989, the year Dublin celebrated its Millennium.
Alongside his father Robert Briscoe, they were the only father and son to ever occupy the office.
The Lord Mayor of Dublin said:
“I was saddened to hear about the death of former Lord Mayor of Dublin Ben Briscoe.
“As Lord Mayor, I would like to express my sympathy and condolences to his family, friends and colleagues on my own behalf, on behalf of my fellow and former Dublin City Councillors and on behalf of the people of Dublin.
“Ben served Dublin City with distinction both as a Councillor and as Lord Mayor from 1988 -1989.
“My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time.
“Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
