Revenue seizes 8 million cigarettes at Dublin Port

Revenue officers seized eight million cigarettes at Dublin Port yesterday, Monday, February 13.

“As a result of routine operations, and with the assistance of Revenue’s mobile x-ray scanner and detector dog Milo, Revenue officers seized approximately 8 million cigarettes at Dublin Port,” a Revenue spokesperson said.

“The cigarettes have an estimated retail value of €6.32million, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of almost €4.95million.

“The smuggled cigarettes, branded ‘Lambert & Butler’, were discovered in a consignment manifested as ‘food stuff’ which originated in Poland and had arrived in an unaccompanied trailer via Rotterdam.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
