Dogs Trust canine couple search for love this Valentine’s Day
Padraig Conlon 14 Feb 2023This Valentine’s Day, Dogs Trust Ireland is appealing for a loving home for a special canine couple who have been in their care for almost a year.
Both dogs were found in appalling conditions and it was feared they may not survive.
Yara, a two-year-old Beagle mix was found seriously injured in a field and had to undergo risky, emergency surgery to save her life.
Evie, a four-year-old Spaniel mix was found with the skin condition mange and multiple infections.
Both dogs were covered in parasites and suffering from hair loss and severe skin issues as a result.
After meeting in kennels, the pair struck up an immediate bond and their love for each other not only helped mend their broken hearts but set them firmly on the road to recovery too.
The charity was able to find a foster home for the devoted pair but are now hoping to find them a permanent home together.
Sandra Ruddell, Assistant Operations Manager at Dogs Trust Ireland explains: “Both Evie and Yara were found in awful conditions, and we feared Yara in particular might not make it.
“Thanks to our supporters, we were able to get them the emergency veterinary care they needed.
“We are so grateful to their fosterers, as both girls have blossomed and fully healed.
“They are now friendly, well-behaved and energetic dogs and we can’t wait to find them their forever home together.
“They would suit a family with children over 16 and would love a garden to play in, so we are hoping to find somebody with a big heart willing to adopt this beautiful pair.”
Ciara Murran, Head of Communications at Dogs Trust Ireland continues: “This Valentine’s Day, we are appealing to people to consider sponsoring a dog for the special dog lover in their lives.
“This will help us to continue to be there for dogs like Evie and Yara when they need us most.
“We have lots of very special dogs, who have been with us a while now, searching for special homes, especially those in quieter areas with few visitors.
“There is a lot of time and attention required when taking on any dog, particularly one of our long term dogs but we believe it’s most definitely worth the unconditional love you will receive in return.”
Dogs Trust considers dogs in their care as ‘UnderDogs’ if they have spent six months or more searching for their forever home.
The charity never gives up on their quest to find each dog their perfect home so, they’re appealing for extra special adopters.
