Mansion House to hold day of Christmas choirs tomorrow
Gary Ibbotson 16 Dec 2022The Lord Mayor of Dublin Caroline Conroy will tomorrow host a day of choirs as ‘Christmas at the Mansion House & Garden’ continues.
Members of the public are invited to pop along and sample some Christmas cheer on the forecourt of the Mansion House as a number of groups perform as part of this year’s programme of events.
“There’s only nine more sleeps to go until the big day and we’ve being enjoying the Christmas programme of festivities here at the Mansion House so far,” said the Lord Mayor.
“Already we’ve had a variety of community and school choirs from throughout Dublin as well as musicians and other performers. I’m looking forward to an entire day of Christmas choirs this weekend.
“If you’re in town on Saturday afternoon drop by and pay us a visit. If you’re not already in the Christmas mood, you will be when you leave!”.
Some of the features you will able to see are The Wishing Tree, a tree adorned with the wishes and dreams of the Christmas Mansion House visitor, a traditional crib built by two Dublin City Council apprentice female carpenters, and pot grown Christmas treed which will survive the Christmas period and be collected, returned to the Wicklow Mountains and planted for another year.
The Mansion House is also part of ‘Dublin Winter Lights’ this Christmas.
When it gets dark, illuminated arches welcome you to the area.
The canopy of lights, the reindeer and the Wishing Tree are operated by Low Wattage light-emitting diodes (LEDs).
This year all the squirrels, nutcracker statues and decorative tree props were custom-made by artists in ReCreate, using only reuse materials.
“ReCreate’s warehouse is filled with tons of reuse materials that have been collected from local and national businesses, diverting this waste from landfill, to use instead in creative projects of all kinds,” the council says.
“Inspired by Rua the Squirrel and her journey along the ‘Dublin Winter Lights’ trail, the squirrels were made using underfloor insulation.”
