Join Paralympic swimming champion Ellen Keane in launching CRC sea swim challenge tomorrow

Padraig Conlon 30 Jun 2022

Join Paralympic swimming gold medallist Ellen Keane tomorrow at 2pm on Dollymount Strand and help her to launch The Central Remedial Clinic’s (CRC) ‘Get In the Sea for the CRC’ annual swimming challenge campaign by running into the sea together or simply just cheer on those brave enough to get in.

Ellen has partnered with the Central Remedial Clinic (CRC) as an ambassador to support their ‘Get In the Sea for the CRC’ swimming challenge campaign and is asking people from around the country to participate in the swim challenge and help to raise vital funds for CRC services, as well as helping to spread awareness about disabilities.

The sea swim challenge commences this Friday the 1st of July 2022 and encourages participants to do 10 swims in the month of July, all the while helping to raise funds.

The CRC is hoping to have 300 swimmers and raise €50,000 for its vital supports and services that are helping to support people with disabilities and their families and carers right across the country.

The ‘Get in the Sea for the CRC’ swimming challenge is a fun filled event which allows participants to swim at their own leisure, when and where they wish, throughout the month of July.

You can swim with your family, friends, neighbours, your local swim club, on your own or even with your dog.

Swim in the sea, the swimming pool or perhaps a local spot!

As a local from Clontarf, Ellen first learned to swim in the CRC swimming pool. The CRC is delighted to welcome Ellen as the ambassador for their ‘Get in the Sea for the CRC’ campaign.

Paralympic Swimming Champion Ellen Keane said: “I am so excited to partner with The CRC as their first ever ambassador for their Swimming Campaign for the month of July. CRC has a special place in my heart because I learned to swim in the CRC swimming pool as a child.

“I am happy to support the CRC’s Swim in July because it brings together two things I am passionate about: swimming and advocating for disability rights.

“I want to get people talking about the rights of people with disabilities and I hope that I can make a difference by using my voice and sharing my experience.

“My hope is that Ireland will become a more inclusive and accessible society.

“I hope to inspire people with disabilities to go for gold and I hope to inspire society to be more accepting.

“Please join me and support the Get In The Sea for The CRC campaign, together we can make a huge difference.”.

Head of Fundraising at The CRC Živa Newman said: “We are so excited and delighted to welcome Ellen our first ever ambassador for our Swimming Challenge for the month of July.

“We are so grateful to Ellen for her work advocating for the rights of people with disabilities to help pave the way for a future where Ireland is a more inclusive society.

“Ellen is an amazing role model for all the people with disabilities and we are thrilled to have her support for our annual 10 Swims in July.
