Lord Mayor reveals line-up for ‘Dublin Reads: Rumpus in the Round’ festival

The Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland has announced the line-up for the fun book festival ‘Dublin Reads: Rumpus in the Round’, being held in the Round Room of the Mansion House on April 23rd celebrating UNESCO World Book & Copyright Day.

The exciting line-up of authors and illustrators includes award-winning children’s authors Paul Howard, Erika McGann and Shane Hegarty partaking in a lively discussion on their latest children’s books.

Úna Woods will host an illustration workshop. Find out how she comes up with the ideas for her drawings and books, then take part in live drawing demonstrations to create your own illustrations.

There will be a contemporary fiction session with acclaimed best-selling authors Sinéad Moriarty and Carmel Harrington.

What makes a great psychological thriller? How does a writer make the hearts of their reader’s race?

Find out from award-winning crime writer Louise Phillips and highly acclaimed crime writers Sharon Dempsey and Gill Perdue.

Young adult readers will be able to hear from Mary Watson, Deirdre Sullivan and Catherine Doyle as they discuss their latest works.

For younger readers, Padraig Kenny, Aoife Dooley and Sarah Moore Fitzgerald will be excited to talk about their upcoming books.

Celebrated Irish picture book authors Bob Johnston and David King will read from their books and discuss the process of getting them published.

A session with literacy expert Dr. Gene Mehigan, from the Marino Institute of Education, will discuss how reluctant young readers can be motivated to read more confidently.

To help them, the Book Doctor will be on hand for young readers to consult on your favourite reads and leave with a prescription for your next book which you can take to your local bookshop or library!

What are you reading? chats throughout the day will hear well-known Dubliners from various walks of life as well as a number of international Ambassadors discuss their reading habits.

‘Dublin Reads: Rumpus in the Round’ will be a jam-packed day with a huge range of book-themed entertainments and activities for book lovers of all ages, featuring 17 writers and illustrators as well as some chats with interesting people over 8 sessions.

It takes place on Saturday April 23rd from 10.30am – 5.00pm in the Round Room of the Mansion House.

The Mansion House itself will also be open on the day so if you have never been in for a look, why not pay it a visit as part of your ‘Rumpus in the Round’ trip.

This is a free event and no tickets are required to attend.
