Independent councillor for Ballymun and Finglas has expressed huge concerns over the NTA’s announcement that the MetroLink and Finglas Luas have been severely delayed.

Local councillor Noeleen Reilly says it is a “kick in the teeth to those communities who have been waiting so long for decent transport links.

“I’m bitterly disappointed to see announcements of more delays for the MetroLink and Finglas Luas,” she said.

“It is incredible to think that we are talking about a Rail system for Ballymun linking all of the Northside since the start of the regeneration back in 1997 and yet nothing has been delivered.

“Both Ballymun and Finglas are so close to the Airport and yet so far when it comes to transport links.

“It would totally open up those communities for badly needed investment given its location to the M50, Airport and all the vacant land.

“There is a belief in the community that these projects will never happen given the amount of delays, names changes, different Government commitments and I don’t blame people for feeling that way.

“If we are truly to be recognised as a world class city then we need a world class transport System and we are simply nowhere near that level.”
