Independent Dublin City Councillor for Finglas Noeleen Reilly says she welcomes the news that a new basketball court will be constructed in Finglas beside the Finglas Leisure Centre.

“We all know the important role sport has in our communities especially shaping young people and giving them lifelong skills,” she said.

“There is quite a lot of facilities in the area for the transitional sports like GAA and soccer, and parents have been asking for some time to include sports like basketball.

“The new full-size court at the rear of the all-weather pitch at the Finglas Leisure Centre is expected to be operational within the next three months.

“A tennis court will also be facilitated nearby to add to the facilities provided in Finglas.

“The pandemic has shown us how vital our sports facilities and parks are to areas like Finglas.

“They played a huge role in supporting people’s welfare and mental health.

“This is the first of many facilities we hope to deliver in the area in the coming years
