The Lord Mayor of Dublin, Alison Gilliland, has welcomed a new report by the world-renowned travel group ‘Lonely Planet’ which places Dublin 7th on the list of Top 10 cities in the world to visit next year.

The report says Dublin is “one of Europe’s most down-to-earth and friendly cities”.

It also praises Dublin’s “approach to ethical tourism, its flourishing independent artisan shopping scene, and plans to pedestrianise parts of the centre to create a renewed sense of community’.

“This is very welcome news,” said Gilliand.

“The Lonely Planet is like the go to guide of international travel, and to place so highly on its list of world cities to visit in 2022 is a great achievement and endorsement of the people of Dublin and actions taken by Dublin City Council over the last 18 months.

“Tourism is an important strand to the economy of Dublin and as international travel is re-established we can get back to welcoming people from around the world to our wonderful city.

“If Dublin is working well for tourists it is also working well for its citizens.”
