Swords town will soon be benefactor of new public toilets after Fingal County Council agreed to provide funding for the installation of the facilities.

Local Independent councillor Joe Newman, who has been campaigning for the toilets for the past number of months, said that he was delighted with the news.

“It’s great that common sense has prevailed,” he said.

“These toilets will be of great assistance to local residence and tourists alike.

“The local authority will no longer be depending on local business to provide these basic facilities to locals and visitors to our town park and main street.”

“I will also continue to ensure these public toilets are well attended on a regular basis.

“We also need better facilities to encourage tourists to visit our town and as was highlighted by the pandemic we cannot rely totally on local businesses to provide this service,” he said.

Councillor Newman also said that he will contact the chief executive of the council and request that further public toilets are installed at Ward Rivervalley Park.
