German artist, Karin Hawkes returns to Dublin for her second Irish solo exhibition at The Ireland Institute this month.

‘Multitudes’ features a collection of Karin’s new Pop Art digital prints.

She draws on photographs of Rock Stars as a source for these works, but the images do not have a snapshot quality, but follow a careful choreography.

Listening again to the Avant-Garde Rock of the 1970’s, such as that of Bryan Ferry was a trigger for her to recall the creative potential of Pop Art.

Karin makes use of it’s language with it’s intense colours and strong outlines in these finely observed works.

Hawkes grew up in West Berlin amidst the worldwide mood of optimism of the 1960’s with the exciting Pop Cultural impulses of that time.

She studied Graphics and Photography, Art History and Languages in Germany and London. Co-founder of the renowned Antique Arts Gallery, Neiriz Berlin (1980-2014), Karin lives and works in Berlin.

The Ireland Institute is an Historical and Cultural Centre located in what was the family home of Patrick and Willie Pearse.

COVID-19 guidelines and social distancing measures will apply, with limited numbers admitted at any one time.
