The Department of Education has announced that seven new ASD classes will be established in Dublin Bay North Schools.

Six primary schools and one secondary school will facilitate the classes.

Stapolin Educate Together National School, Belmayne Educate Together Secondary School, Darndale Junior National School, St Mary’s National School, St Brigid’s Boys National School Killester, Ardscoil La Salle, and Gracepark Educate Together will host the classes.

“I warmly welcome the opening of seven new special classes in six primary schools and one secondary school in the constituency,” says local TD Richard Bruton.

“These are very high support classes with one teacher and two special needs assistants for the six pupils attending.

“It can make such a difference to children who need this level of support.

“The number of these units have quadrupled in the last ten years, and there are about 66 such classes in each constituency.

“This is making integration a reality for hundreds of children in this area. It requires an effort by schools to take part, but it is very rewarding for everyone in the school.

“More and more schools are making integration of children with special needs as a core part of their mission.”
