Tributes have come in for former Dublin City Councillor and homeless activist Anthony Flynn, who was found in his East Wall home yesterday.

Flynn was most well known for establishing the Inner City Helping Homeless in 2013, a voluntary charity that helps homeless people and rough sleepers in Dublin.

However, recently Flynn was accused of sexual assault by two individuals. Gardaí were investigating the matter but had not charged or arrested Flynn.

Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland paid tribute to the councillor.

“Dublin City Council is saddened to hear of the untimely death of Councillor Anthony Flynn,” read a statement.

“The Lord Mayor, Alison Gilliland, on behalf of Dublin City Council, extends her deepest condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time.

“Councillor Anthony Flynn was an Independent councillor representing the people of North Inner City and elected to Dublin City Council in May 2019.”

People Before Profit councillor Hazel De Nortúin said that she has “still not processed this.

“Condolences to Anthony’s family.

“He was a really great comrade to have on DCC and outside my own party, the one I’d turn to the most.

“I’m devastated. He’ll be missed. RIP.”

Labour councillor Dermot Lacey said: “My deepest sympathy to the family, all at Inner City Helping Homeless and friends of Anthony Flynn at this awful news and sad time.

“May he Rest in Peace.”
