Lord Mayor of Dublin Alison Gilliland visited one of homeless charity Depaul’s services in Dublin, Sundial House earlier today.

The service, which was a pioneering service when it first opened its doors 13 years ago, is located on James Street, Dublin 8.

Sundial House provides bespoke, long term accommodation for up to 30 residents at any one time.

The service provides support to people who have experienced extended periods of street homelessness and have entrenched alcohol use issues.

The facility offers a holistic harm reduction approach where each resident is given support to manage their alcohol consumption.

Speaking on her visit Lord Mayor, Alison Gilliland said: “It is great to get the opportunity to visit such a unique service, a service that when it opened was the first of its kind in the city.

“It is only when you visit a place like Sundial House that you gain an understanding of the great work taking place each day.

“I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge and thank Depaul and their dedicated staff for the level of support and care they provide to the most vulnerable in our society.”

“Living through this pandemic has really shown us the importance of having shelter and a place to call home.

“Homelessness continues to be a major societal issue here in Dublin and beyond and one with which we need to provide alternate solutions.

“We must continue to highlight the problems faced by those experiencing homelessness and find permanent housing-led solutions to end homelessness.”

Speaking on the Lord Mayor’s visit Depaul’s Senior Services Manager, Przemek Kluczenko said: “We were delighted to have the Lord Mayor of Dublin visit Sundial House today and to witness first-hand the important work being done by Depaul.

“It is a really special and unique service and to be recognised by the Lord Mayor means a lot to both our residents and our staff.

“It is important to display the impact that a service like Sundial House can have in helping to tackle homelessness and really providing an alternate model to meet the needs of vulnerable people.

“All of us here at Depaul would like to thank the Lord Mayor for taking the time to come and visit the service and for showing a keen interest in the support and services Depaul provide”.
