Kellie Harrington is through to an Olympic final after her semi final win over Sudaporn Seesondee of Thailand.

She was victorious on points thanks to a split 3-2 decision with three of the judges scoring 29-28 in her favour, while two went 29-28 for her opponent.

The Pride of Portland Row, who is now assured at least a silver medal, will fight Beatriz Ferreira of Brazil in the gold medal fight on Sunday morning (6am Irish time.)

Speaking to RTÉ Sport following her win, Kellie was full of praise for her opponent.

“I boxed Sudaporn in 2018 in the World final and it was a 3-2 split decision,” she said.

“It was a very, very close decision back then. It was a chess match back then, and it was a chess match today again.

“She’s a fantastic operator, she has a really, really strong left hand, so I was trying not to get hit with that and trying to stay away from it!

“Trying to tease her on, like my coaches said, and then counter.

“I felt a little more comfortable towards the end, standing instead of running. It was fantastic, just brilliant.”

Meanwhile, back in Portland Row this morning, her jubilant family were bursting with pride.
