A Fine Gael Senator has welcomed the provision of additional centre-based respite services for adults, based in Glenageary, Co. Dublin.

Senator Barry Ward said, “In Budget 2021, the Government committed to spending €5.5 million on the development of new community-based respite facilities across the country.

“The new facility in Glenageary will provide a wide variety of services to people with a disability.”

In addition to the provision of a new Respite Centre, alternative respite will be provided to families in the south-east Dublin area, in the form of holiday breaks for children.

“Alternative respite gives families a break by easing the pressure of full-time care”, said Senator Ward.

“In doing so, it improves quality of life and provides relief.”

The new Respite Centre in Glenageary is due to open at the end of 2021, with additional funding being used to upgrade the facility to HIQA* standards.
