5 new charging points for electric vehicles in Finglas to be installed
Gary Ibbotson 01 Jul 2021Dublin City Council has welcomed the decision by Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan that additional funding will be made available for installing charge points at its off-street charging hub in Finglas.
DCC is piloting this hub in its public car park at its Area Offices in Finglas.
“The hub will provide five charge points offering a range of charging speeds from 7kw to 50kw and will cater to local residents and citizens availing of the public services immediately adjacent the car park (Garda station, Community Crèche, Leisure Centre and Gym and more),” the local authority said.
“Any electric car user will be able to charge at these off-street points (without necessarily having to join a scheme) which is located a few hundred meters off the busy N2 primary route.
“A range of complementary mobility options for commuters is also being considered for co-location to create a ‘mobility hub’.”
“In a rapidly changing space, a range of different solutions will be required to successfully address current and future mobility demand, not only in the City, but also across the wider Dublin Metropolitan Area,” it said.
“This is so that members of the public and business community can be confident in making decisions to purchase electric vehicles and to use electric vehicles for personal, leisure and business use, for use on both short and long journeys.
“In addition, variations to the City Development Plan 2016-2022 introduced new objectives such that all new parking for new (or extensions to) housing, apartments and places of employment that provide car parking shall be electric charge enabled.”
