Dublin City Council is set to introduce 150 portaloo toilets and over 130 bins in the city this weekend.

The news comes after DCC was criticised during the week for not being adequately prepared for people socialising outside in the summer months.

Videos circulated on social media last weekend of piles of rubbish left at various Dublin streets after large groups of people congregated to enjoy the weather.

In a tweet, Lord Mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu said: “Just got a confirmation from Recovery Task Force manager: 150 Portaloo toilets, 54 large Eurobins and 80 Barrel Bins across the City from this weekend with a specific focus on high footfall areas in the City Centre!”

On the north side of the city, the toilets and bins will be placed at Wolfetone Square, O’Connell Street, Smithfield, Royal Canal, Mountjoy Square, and Diamond Park.

On the south side, the facilities will be placed at Sycamore St, Temple Bar Square, Chatham Row, Sth King Street, Coppinger Row, Dame Court, Dame Lane, and Merrion Square.
