The Dalkey Book Festival has announced that actor Matt Damon will be a guest speaker at this year’s festival which runs from June 18 to 20.

“Spending March 2020 in lockdown in Dalkey, the Hollywood star was adopted by the village in a matter of days and became a regular at the coffeeshops and the bookshop,” says the festival organisers.

“Images of him carrying his togs down the Vico in a SuperValu bag firmly cemented him as the man next door!

“Matt Damon will talk to David McWilliams on Sunday June 20 about lockdown in fairy-tale Dalkey, his sandwich order from Country Bake, bags of cans and his love of Ireland.

“Matt joins a stellar line-up of speakers at this year’s festival which will be streamed from the Martello Tower in Dalkey, including President Michael D. Higgins, international best-selling author Isabel Allende, Professor Brian Cox and exiled Russian businessman Mikhail Khodorkovsky to name just a few.

“The full programme of 23 events and tickets are available at www.dalkeybookfestival.org.

“A weekend ticket, priced €50, allows ticket holders to watch all the content over the weekend of the 18th, 19th and 20th of June, and exclusive access to rewatch all the events for 30 days after the festival.”
