Revenue seized 50,400 illegal cigarettes at Dublin Airport this week

Revenue officers at Dublin Airport seized 50,400 cigarettes on Monday and Tuesday this week, a spokesperson has revealed.

In a statement, Revenue says that the “illegal cigarettes, branded ‘NZ Gold’ and ‘Rothmans’, were discovered in packages consigned from Italy and have a combined retail value of €89,300, representing a potential loss to the Exchequer of over €70,600.”

The seizure coincided with an intelligence led operation in Ballyjamesduff, Co. Cavan yesterday where Revenue officers seized 76,000 unstamped cigarettes during a search of a retail premises.

“These seizures are part of Revenue’s ongoing operations targeting the supply of illegal tobacco products.
