THE Red Line Book festival is calling for submissions for the 2021 event scheduled to take place in October.

Now in its 10th year, the festival “celebrates the very best in local, national and international writing,” according to the organisers, South Dublin County Council.

This year the event will take place with a blended programme of both in-person and online due to the ongoing pandemic.

Held in October every year, South Dublin County Council says that the festival is a “celebration of all things literary; be it spoken, written, sung, played, illustrated or even just thought!

“Taking place in venues across South County Dublin, the Red Line Book Festival provides a programme of events and workshops that appeals to people of all ages and interests, from children to adults, casual readers to book worms.”

The local authority is now calling on local writers and poets to submit their ideas for the festival in their own area of expertise.

“The objective of this call-out is to provide a platform for emerging and established talents to share their work with new audiences,” says the council.

“The festival invites the following proposals: presenting a workshop/talk on their own particular area of expertise, proposing a unique literary event that would successfully integrate with the festival, participation/attendance at a reading event with other successful contributors that would culminate in a panel discussion.

“Submissions may also include proposals for installations and innovative forms of presentation and proposals from writers working in cross-disciplinary contexts.”

The organisers say that because Red Line Book Festival is a curated event, “participation is by invitation only with participants selected by the festival curatorial team.

“The programme presents a high-profile, quality book festival within South Dublin, providing a wide range of events.

“The festival engages in the exploration of ideas, literature, culture, creativity and imagination, and includes showcasing the best of national and emerging contemporary writing.

“In 2020, the festival hosted 40 online events, attracting 4,300 people.”

Closing date for submissions is Friday, May 28 with the festival running from October 11 to 17.
