Gardai charge man in relation to ATM fraud

GARDAI have charged a man who was arrested on Friday, September 11 as part of an ongoing investigation targeting international criminal organisations committing cyber-enabled fraud in Ireland.

The 34-year-old will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice (Court 1) tomorrow morning, Monday, September 14 at 10.30am.

As part of ongoing investigations targeting international criminal organisations committing cyber enabled frauds in Ireland, detectives from the Garda National Economic Crime Bureau (GNECB) carried out an operation in Dublin City on Friday, September 11.

During the operation a 34-year-old Romanian national was arrested in Dublin City. He was detained at Store Street Garda Station under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The investigation into transaction reversal frauds was reported by a financial institution on January 13, 2020. Between January 8 and 10, 18 ATM machines were targeted in Dublin resulting in the theft of money from customer’s accounts and damage to the ATMs.
